Hills Grammar – FIFA Standard Playing Fields

Building on a partnership spanning decades, Paynter Dixon recently oversaw the delivery of high-performance synthetic turf playing fields for Hills Grammar. Our team relentlessly pursued quality through precision engineering, cutting-edge technologies and industry-leading materials.

Hills Grammar is one of Sydney’s leading independent learning institutions. For more than 30 years, our education team has worked with the school to enhance the campus through a range of educational and recreational facilities. Most recently we oversaw the delivery of new, illuminated sports fields integrating synthetic turf.

Underpinned by technical precision, the design required extensive re-shaping of sloping vacant land, with nearly 1500 cubic metres of soil imported to site as part of the bulk cut and fill process. A further 20 cm of infill was compacted in layers, with GPS-enabled grading of the surface producing a 1% fall across the field to assist drainage.

Sporting performance is enhanced by a layer of rubber shock pad beneath the synthetic turf.

A network of drains and PVC collector pipes below the surface capture stormwater and siphon to a nearby detention tank for slow release into the stormwater system.

Six lighting towers (25 metres in height) were also installed to provide ample light for night games and practise.

Enclosed by perimeter fencing, the fields are accessed by concrete stairs and a ramp, while sandstone blocks provide structural support and further distinguish the boundary.

A test was conducted on completion of the work to confirm their status as FIFA equivalent standard fields.

This project compliments a previous project involving the construction of a 150-seat grandstand with field lighting and a small function centre.
