Paynter Dixon has worked with the Blacktown Workers Club in Sydney’s north-west for over 30 years, undertaking a wide range of projects.
The Club has embraced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rejuvenate facilities and appeal to the next generation of patrons while also maintaining core products and services cherished by traditional patrons.
Overseeing the refurbishment, Paynter Dixon is working closely with the club to reimagine under-utilised areas, improve accessibility and position the club for growth over coming years.
Stage 1 of the master plan has entailed refurbishment on two floors. New areas include:
- New grand entry to the Club with centralised access spine
- ‘Redwood’ late night bar
- ‘The Shed’ sports bar
- ‘Eucalpytus Dining’ restaurant
Redwood evokes casual urban sophistication with booths, high ceilings, large circular windows, charcoal-black cladding and a graffiti wall painted by a local artist.
Affectionately named The Shed, the sports bar pays homage to the original Tin Shed members of the Club and is evocative of the iconic Australian hotel with a large central bar and sporting memorabilia.
Eucalyptus Dining embraces contemporary Australiana dining, with materials and seating configurations contributing to a warm and welcoming space.
The front entrance has been repositioned to improve street and internal access to the Club. Technical precision also underpins the use of prominent materials, including curved glass in the main exhibition display. This space can be accessed by sliding doors to enable showcasing of large items such as cars.
To meet tight deadlines, work was conducted on multiple faces on the ground and first floor. This saw the new Grand Entry and The Shed completed and open to appreciative patrons for Melbourne Cup Day.
