Manal’s launchpad to a new career direction

April 26, 2022 | People

Manal Alnakoula doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Now in the final stage of a six-month internship with Paynter Dixon, Manal has worked towards a career in finance since arriving in Australia four years ago.

Her family were compelled to leave Syria while Manal was in the middle of studying a finance degree.

On arrival, Manal wasted no time in undertaking a Certificate III in Accounts Administration and a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping and Accounting.

Keen to acquire work experience, her path led to the PAYCE Foundation and the opportunity to join the Kick Start program following a recommendation from her case worker at CORE Community Services.

Established by the Foundation to give youth on-the-job experience and training in hospitality, Kick Start operates a fleet of food trailers on Sydney construction sites.

The experience improved her English and led to the completion of Certificate III Hospitality, but numbers remained her true passion.

As is often the case, accounting roles are hard to come by without practical work experience. However, a timely introduction to Paynter Dixon led to an internship within the Finance team where Manal has provided accounts support.

Her routine has involved archiving, invoicing and shadowing other members of the team, including Accounts Payable Manager, Pritika Lal.

“I like the challenge of growing and learning new processes,” says Manal (pictured above left with Pritika).

“I’m grateful to the whole team for their support, including Pritika who guides my work on accounts. While there’s a lot to learn, I’m enjoying the experience.”

Pritika compliments Manal on her self-initiative. “We are a busy team providing financial services to a growing business, but Manal has embraced responsibility and is eager to do more. It’s a pleasure to work with her.”

Paynter Dixon also promotes career pathways in the construction industry through the Cadet program. To learn more, visit www.paynterdixon.com.au/careers
