Paynter Dixon completes iconic club refurbishment

July 25, 2025 | Hospitality

The iconic Sydney CBD venue, Club York, has set a new standard in hospitality in the heart of the city following a major refurbishment.

Paynter Dixon was engaged by the Club for design management and construction for the renovations, which were completed in stages while maintaining a reduced service for members.

The work included a new beverage and bar area in the hugely popular Primi Italian restaurant, which has experienced significant growth since opening.

Renovations on the ground floor have transformed a tired entryway into a design statement that leads through to the new facilities. These include a contemporary bar and lounge space, featuring a striking lighting installation, wood paneling, and a marble bar.

The gaming room has been redesigned into a single open space, while the staircase to level one now leads to the new restaurant area, Meza Bar and Grill.

The stunning bar, soft finishes, atmospheric lighting, and mesmerising fireplace create an authentic Mediterranean experience. The restaurant’s ambience and food offer an exceptional new destination for members and guests.

Club York Chief Executive Officer Angus Rimmer said he was delighted with the completed project.

“We wanted to deliver an enhanced level of service for our existing members and attract new members in what is a competitive market, and we’ve achieved that.

“The new facilities have set a new benchmark in the CBD.

“We had a great team, including our construction partner Paynter Dixon, who delivered the project while keeping the club operating.”

Paynter Dixon Director Matthew Greene said the project was an outstanding success, creating a unique hospitality offering in the CBD.

“Given the location and the need to keep operations running, there were certainly challenges. But the club team was a great partner, and I think the result speaks for itself. The Club had a bold vision, and it was a privilege to manage the design and construction through to completion.”
