Paynter Dixon partnered with Norwest Christian College to deliver the award-winning Atrium, a landmark learning environment aligned with the College’s ‘Building Purposeful Lives’ framework.
Tailored to a student-led education model, the project successfully introduced a tertiarystyle environment into a K-12 setting, lifting the quality of campus learning to a new level. The facility includes eight classrooms, flexible collaboration zones, and a 150-seat lecture theatre—all delivered seamlessly within a live school environment to support student agency and engagement. The building’s design centers on a multi-purpose learning stair and atrium space, which is framed on the first floor by a ‘learning street.’ This indoor street provides a diverse range of collaboration spaces, ensuring students can work independently while remaining within clear sight lines of supervising teachers.
To further support STEM education, an open learning space is formed by a cluster of surrounding classrooms, complemented by discreet resource storage to keep the focus on active, hands-on discovery. Delivered within an operational campus and tight access constraints, the project remained on time and safe throughout, even during COVID disruptions.
